The Future of Content Creation Has Changed

For content creators, there has been a rise in the need to have a monopoly on the content you create, your community, your range of visibility and be rewarded according to the amount of value you command in the Web2.0 internet.

Oops, we said WEb2.0! We’ll tell you all about what that is, but first…

The evolution of the internet has happened in two phases (Web1.0 & Web2.0) and we’re currently shifting into the third phase (Web3.0).

What do these mean, you ask?

WEB1.0

This was the first form of internet to ever exist where users of the web were more passive than active. All we could do in that era was consume information with no avenue to contribute. Basically, we only had what we were given. Yeah, we agree that wasn’t great. Some good examples are MySpace, Slashdot, etc

What is Web2

WEB2.0

And then, the internet started shifting into the second phase, Web2.0, where users had more access to use the internet in a way that allows them to generate, contribute and exchange information. Thanks to platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc., people would create content and if it’s good, others could broaden the content by remixing it and adding theirs or debunk it if it is considered “wrong.” In a nutshell, everyone had room to air their opinions across various range of topics.

LIMITATIONS OF WEB2.0

However, with all the accessibility that came with Web2.0, there are some inconsistencies that have never been in the favor of content creators and users. In terms of data privacy, community growth, content reach, content censorship and rewards, owners of Web2.0 applications held all the playing cards.

They determine who sees what content and whose content is worth more viewership. And although they say every data is safe, users’ data are consistently sold to the highest bidder, with the only means of reward for great content being huge followership and brand partnerships.

THE SOLUTION TO WEB2.0 — WEB 3.0

In 2021, Black Influencers on TikTok decided to go on a strike from creating dance routines that blow up on the platform because they realized that YT Influencers who would just copy what Black Influencers had created were being paid more.

This is just one typical example of the inconsistencies and partiality content creators face on Web2.0.

For reasons like this, Web3.0 needed to come to the rescue with its decentralized automotive advantage for both content creators and users.

WEB3 AND ITS IMPACT ON CONTENT CREATION

Web3.0 is being described as the next phase of internet usage. With its core concept focused on decentralization, ownership and openness, it’s said to be the very solution to every content creator’s concern.

Content creators do not get enough recognition for the amount of work they put into their content. Asides not gaining enough recognition, they are not well compensated and do not have the power to drive the usability of their content due to the fact that owners of Web2.0 platforms have full control over everything; giving very little control or none at all to the content owners.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WEB3.0 TO CONTENT CREATION?

To fully understand the extent to which Web3.0 is going to shift full automation power from Web2.0 platforms to content creators, there’s a need to understand the benefits that come with the advent of Web3.0

1. Creators Can Control the Distribution of their Content using NFTs

The more the scarcity of a product, the more demand it has. The Natural law of Economics; which has been altered by Web2.0 platforms because the demand for videos, Memes, GIFs, and content is no longer heavy. These creative contents can be found everywhere on the internet and so, it has become more of a battle of who can sell their content the cheapest. And this is wrong.

However, we now have our eureka moment with NFTs. With the tokenization of content and creative works, ownership can now have a public trace, right from the original owner down to everyone who has ever owned it. The re-introduction of scarcity automatically increases the compensation value of content creators, and that’s all we can’t wait to see!

2. Web3.0 Users Can Now Earn While They Enjoy

So think of it like how people invest in artworks. Asides the fact that they want to own it, they know that at any point in time they’d want to sell, the resale value would be way higher than the buy value. That’s why everyone’s trying to steal the Mona Lisa.

With Web3.0, users who purchase works from creators are now more investors than just fans. Works purchased can be resold at a much higher price should they decide to. Remember, this whole system works on tokenization, and we all know how profitable tokens can be when they’re on the high rise.

Also, based on the simple fact that users know how much they could profit from this, support for creators will be more organic and genuine because people would naturally only pay for and support the things they love.

Imagine earning a lifetime investment simply because you showed love to your favorite musician, artiste or content creator. Now, that sounds like LIVING.

3. Everyone Is Recognized

Think of all the internet trends that have spark participation from 2020 till now. Can you figure out which creator(s) started which trend? Your answer is most likely NO. This is because Web2.0 platforms were not designed to give everyone involved in collaborative work the recognition they deserve. Only the viral creators get the recognition, leaving others out of the recognition equation.

Yeah, that sucks.

The tokenization system of Web3.0 now gives an avenue for everyone involved in a project to gain recognition. From the photographers, videographers, sound engineers, dancers, etc… Everyone gets the recognition they deserve for the amazing work they have done. And that’s really what everyone asks for.

As Web3.0 advances and gains more recognition, there’s no doubt that content creators and users will leverage this great incentivizing platform, as they now have the power to charge what they’re actually worth, and at the same time maintain everlasting recognition.
